Biggest Loser 2 - The Finale!!!

Yeah!  It's Over!!!  And Guess what?  Between the 17 of us that officially finished this thing we lost almost 100lbs!!!  Say what?  Yep, it's true.  Some lost as little as 0lbs and some as much as 11lbs.  Not too shabby given some of us have been incredibly shrinking women for the last 6 months!  Man I can't believe it has been that long since the start of the first BL contest here at Tuesday Night.  So let's get to it shall we?

And the winner is....Michelle Mars Kraenzlein with a loss of 7.69%!!!!  Since the start of the first contest Michelle not only raced her first 5k but she lost almost 25lbs!  Way to go Michelle you skinny bitch you!  And I say that with much love and affection.  I'm very proud of all that you have accomplished!  And yes, we will have a third contest, just not right away.

As promised, you will receive your very own keri bag from lerato designs (that's mine below, perfect for strolling around the farmer's market).  You can pick out one from Pickel's Etsy shop here or you can contact her directly to pick out your own fabrics, strap length, etc. She and the Mister are heading to Africa for a month, so unfortunately, you might have to wait until they return if you choose a custom design.  And since I'm a little late getting the winner announced and lerato designs isn't taking any more orders after July 1st it might be August before we get to see your new bag.  It will be worth the wait I promise.

Below is the percentage of weight loss after 12 long weeks of hard work!  We lost a few at the end but still a big group.  We all know who the winner was, but take a look at who gave Michelle a run for her money: Karin, Lori, and Sharon!  Great job!  Since the first contest Lori (our winner from round one) has lost almost 34lbs and Karin almost 20lbs!

Dining room before and after - work in progress!

I wanted to wait until the dining room was done before I posted pics but I have a feeling it is going to take some time and I just couldn't wait to share!  Here is what our dining room looked like before we bought the house.  I used to love Pottery Barn until I saw it in our 105 year old Denver Square home.  Made the decision right then and there to evolve my style.  The red stressed me out.  The light fixture was one notch above uglyassbrassglass builder grade (thanks Claire for that great word).  10 years ago I would have died to have a room like this - wine glasses on the wall, PB buffet, table, chairs - sigh.  Now, not so much.
Bring on the paint.  Benjamin Moore Mount Saint Anne was the final choice.
New chandelier.  Coincidentally it has details that tie in perfectly with the damask on the walls.  I have an identical chandelier new in box if anyone is interested I'll cut you a good deal.  Long story.
We bought the mango wood dining table from Arhaus when we lived out in the burbs.  Luckily our new house has a rare feature - a large square dining room.  Colette linen chairs in natural burlap with pewter nail heads are from Crate and Barrel.
The most recent change was adding "The Big Brocade" damask stencil in Pearl White Shear from the Modern Masters metallic paint collection.  I wasn't about to take on this job so we hired Jen from Icing Studios.  The Vietnamese cabinet was a Craigslist find by our interior designer Jamie.  Totally scored on that one!
I love it so far...
...can't wait to see how it turns out!

Grow Dammit Grow, part 6, I'm growing stuff y'all

Can you believe it went from this...
to this...
to this...
In just two months!?!

From this...
to this...
And from this...
to this...
In less than one month!?!

Mother Nature is a crazy thing.  The tomato above was by far the smallest of my seedlings - I got cocky after the success of my Bad Ass New Yorkers and transplanted them too early.  It's a Brandywine grown from seed I got from the HVSL.  I think every one I gave away died.  But not mine!

Now bring on the m-effin vegetables!

See older Garden Posts here.  If I gave you a plant, and it survived, email me a picture!

BL2 Week 11 - One Week Left!!!!

One Week Left!  Are you meeting your goals?  I hope so, but either way, for the last 11 weeks you've made the decision to be a healthier person and that is the most I can hope for.  Anything more is just low fat icing on the fat free cake!  (just kidding, don't eat that low fat / fat free crap)

Below is the percentage of weight loss after Week 11 (this is a running total, not a weekly result).  Quite a few people haven't been weighing in which is fine, if I don't hear from you by the last weigh in Tuesday July 29th I'll take your name off the list.  I would like to think that everyone sees this as a fun contest that encourages us to make healthy changes not something to stress you out.  Because one thing none of us needs is more stress in our lives!  Heidi, Michelle, and Karin are kicking ass and taking names in our top three spots again this week!  Way to go ladies!

S.P.R.I.N.G. Swap brought to you by The Claw

I participated in my first Swap organized by Sherri over at The Claw.  See details here.  My little packet of goodies came from Beth at What I Should Have Said and Mundane and Magical.  The theme you ask?  S.P.R.I.N.G.  There wasn't a note so I had to use my imagination which as an engineer pretty much sucks.  S: sunflower?  P: Peach State Paradise book.  R & I: ? ummmm, not sure.  N: a pretty little spring notebook.  G: the Gilliam lemon candies and/or the pink garden gloves.  Thanks Beth!!!  If I totally missed the point on a couple of items feel free to let me know, but either way, thanks for all the pretty things!  I'll be trying out the gloves in my garden today.

My swap partner was the lovely Sherri and if you want to see what I sent check it out over at Le Claw.  Thanks for organizing Sherri and for letting me participate in my very first Swappity Swap!  I can't wait to see everyone's packages.

Happy Father's Day!!!

Worst daughter ever didn't buy a card yet. I've had a reminder on my desk and on my computer for two weeks. But hey, I can at least write a blog post! Here is one of my favorite pics of me and my dad. We're on Korneffel's Island and that is our cottage and Chris Craft in the background. I've seen a few versions of it but this one I ripped out of my baby book to find the following in my mom's hand writing on the back:

First sucker July (I assume 75?) Mom was away (but of course). Given by Joyce Rosou.

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY DAD!!!

I made a promise and I'm sticking to it

Well, for the most part anyway.  Here's what I said in a previous blog post:
In an attempt to educate myself on what it means to eat in season, from May - November my goal is to only buy produce/fruit from farmer's markets or get it out of my garden.
So I've mostly been able to do that.  But not 100%.  Our farmer's market just opened on Wednesdays (in addition to Saturdays) and since I was driving by on my way home from jury duty I stopped in right as it opened.  I grabbed what I thought were green onions but it turns out they were overwinter garlic.  I started to put them back and then said what the hell, live on the edge you rebel.  Reminds me of the time I asked Bernie to make stir fry while I worked out and he thought the leeks that I bought to make soup with were green onions.  Have you ever seen how big a frickin leek is?  It would take at least 5 green onions to equal one of these leeks.  They don't taste so good in stir fry either but it made for a good laugh.

So anyway, here's what I got: super skinny asparagus, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, and the overwinter garlic.  The spinach is from my own damn garden!  Some bugs ate holes in some of the leaves, but I'm assuming that comes with the territory.  It's all so pretty and colorful!  I made a quinoa pasta primavera with a little bit of baked chicken added in.  I sliced the garlic bulb and sauteed it in some olive oil then added the green part (not the leafy part) and then added the spinach.  It gave the best flavor, would definitely try it again.  Or it could just be I grew the best damn spinach in the state of Colorado.  It's possible.

Some of the garlic stems or whatever the hell they're called were impossible to cut through but the guy selling them said we could eat them and we didn't die afterwards so there you have it.  The heirlooms went on the pizza I made last night.  Yum yum yum.  Support your local farmers and shop local all at the same time by hitting the Farmer's Market this summer.

BL2 Week 10

What are your goals for the Last 2 Weeks???

Full disclosure here at Tuesday Night, I'm sitting at a sports bar in the Tucson airport waiting for my flight that won't get me home until midnight.  I had a cheeseburger with fries and a beer.  Gasp, it's true.  While writing this week's Biggest Loser blog no less.  Such is life, I'll be working out tomorrow and glad to put an end to two straight weeks of travel.  Just in time to finish up this thing with some results.  BTW, I'm in the seating area outside of the bar where it appears to be a ladies only area - who wants to be in that loud bar with all those sports on the t.v.'s anyway?

Below is the percentage of weight loss after Week 10 (this is a running total, not a weekly result). Heidi is still in the lead and Michelle made a HUGE leap this week!!!!  That 5k she finished must have done the trick.  I feel a real competition brewing here.  With only 2 weeks left will it be Heidi?  Michelle?  Or...YOU!?!

What are your goals for the Last 3 Weeks???

Below is the percentage of weight loss after Week 9 (this is a running total, not a weekly result).  Heidi is still in the lead but 3 of you jumped over 5% this week!!!!  Karin, Lori, and Sharon are going to give Heidi a run for her money these last 3 weeks!!!!  I want to give...um...what's a modern version of "shout out" or "props"? to my Steady-Eddie Chelsea who has consistently lost weight every single week since she started the first contest - even over the two week break.  Slow and steady wins the race girl, keep it up!

While I don't encourage drinking as part of a weight loss program, we all know it happens.  So you might as well make better choices - clear liquor, wine, light beer, or this yummy concoction from one of your competitors Claire:

i have a cocktail recipe i'd love to share- 1 bottle of lemon/lime seltzer, 1 tub crystal light (or kroger!) lemonade mix, approx 10 shots of lemon vodka. blend while the seltzer is cold for more carbonation, while warm for less. just drink a little of the seltzer, then blend all the ingredients in the bottle. keep it chilled in the fridge (or cooler, if camping:D) and it's a wicked delish and refreshing drink- all for about 70 calories a glass!

My Muffintop (don't be scared, it's not actually mine)

Check out this awesome video that Bernie's cousin Nipper's wife Marija shot and directed!  Pass it along!!!  I removed the embedded link because apparently you have to watch it on You Tube for the views to count.  Check check check it out!
It's done! It's done! I shot this video with my girlies, and it's awesome, and we need your help getting it out there. We had over 9000 views on photocinenews today! Holy you know what! It's up on YouTube now, and I'd be so grateful if you'd all pass it along. It'll be up on FunnyorDie tomorrow.

 xoxo

Watch out for that Chris-Craft!

Look at that speedboat cruising on Lake St. Clair....
Wait just a minute...that's no Chris-Craft!
Bernie drives his new boat on Ferril Lake in City Park...
...while Cooper keeps an eye out for dangerous geese

Half Marathon Anyone?

I've been accused of being bossy but we all know that aint true.  Anyway, I strong armed convinced a few folks to do a half marathon this October.  The Denver Marathon was bought by the Rock'n'Roll series and a bunch of us (me, Claire, Chelsea, Kenny, Anita, Dom, Logan, Jaime, etc.) will be running or walking 13.1 miles Sunday October 17.  Want to join us?  Check it out.  If the course is like last year it will go by our house on City Park.  Look!  There's Bernie and Cooper cheering us on from the pink flamingo paddle boat!  Boy that dog loves him some paddle boat.

Since we have a few first timers some have asked me for a training program - yes, because I'm an expert runner, anyway.  You can find adequate training programs all over the place - online, Runnersworld.com, etc.  But I've always been drawn to this program from Jeff Galloway for its simplicity.   I'm not going to steal his program outright, you'll have to go to his website to check it out.

Jeff is known for his run/walk method but this program could work for runners, walkers, or run walkers like myself.  I would say Some would say Jeff takes a long time to train you (17 weeks is a bunch for a half) but when real life happens and you miss a week or two or four you'll still be able to get the proper training done.  Not that this has ever happened to me. ahem.   I also like that it keeps the weekdays simple by using time as a guide and then your long run on the weekend is mileage based.  It just seemed more do-able than any of the other programs I've used (everyone's got 30 minutes right?)...but hey, I walk more than I run so use this or find another program that speaks to you.  You have just shy of 20 weeks from today.  Just don't try to wing it.  Trust me, injuries can last a long long time.  Happy running, see you in October!

BL2 Week 8

Biggest Loser finale was last week - man those people lost a lot of weight.  The winner lost an entire large person.  Perfectly timed by NBC, My BFF Jillian's new show starts tonight, looking forward to it.  As for our little group, a couple of people were ready to throw in the towel last week but remember, this contest is 12 weeks long and there is still time to get back on track.  Keep your eye on the prize - your very own custom bag like mine below from your fellow competitor Pickel (check out her Etsy shop, I told her what I wanted and poof I had a lovely farmer's market bag fit for a tall girl):

Below is the percentage of weight loss after Week 8 (this is a running total, not a weekly result). I'm not announcing any winners this week because the majority of y'all didn't weigh in.  And I didn't send out reminders other than facebook because I'm not a tyrant and it was a long weekend, fun was had by all I'm sure.  But it is a new week now and time to get back on track.  I will say good job to Karin for losing a few pounds over the holiday!  And welcome home Anne Marie who came home safely (and a couple pounds lighter) from a month long trip to Africa!  We have 4 weeks left - how much can you lose?  I'm signing up for 8lbs.
